3rd Annual Event Youth Walk: New Haven 2007 Friday, August 3rd, 2007 10am-12pm New Haven Green
Last year 650 youth walked to raise money for youth serving programs. On Friday, August 3rd the City Wide Youth Coalition (CWYC) is expecting not 650 but over 1,000 youth to walk around the New Haven Green raising money for year-round and summer programs.
CWYC is a network of 40 youth serving organizations that work to enhance the lives of children, youth and families in Greater New Haven. CWYC is planning the 3rd annual Youth Walk in order to raise funds for each of the member groups.
With declining funds for New Haven youth serving organizations this fundraising event will help support summer programs, field trips, tutoring, mentoring, sports activities, art and media workshops, SAT prep, and other priceless opportunities. Each youth participant will solicit sponsorships from family, friends, and neighbors for every lap they walk. In addition to youth participants, City employees and corporate teams will walk as well. Last year the community raised 8K from the event. With help from generous sponsors including City Bank and the Regional Water Authority this year the CWYC hopes to double that amount.
In addition to fund raising, the walk will also bring the community together to celebrate New Haven youth and youth serving organizations. Chad Dawson the WBC light heavy weight champion of the world will be coming to commemorate the New Haven YMCA youth programs that made a difference in his life. Everyone from the Peabody on the Road team and Hot 93.7 and the HOT Street Team, to the Arts Council of Greater New Haven and Veronica Douglas from WTNH Channel 8 will participate in the two-hour jammed packed event.
The schedule includes registration at 10am, an opening ceremony at 10:30, stretching, and walking at 10:45. Water will be provided while KP, the DJ, plays Hip-Hop and Oldies. After the 60 minutes of burning calories around the New Haven Green, there will be a closing ceremony with music, fun, and a special gift for each of the youth walkers.
